21c Museum Hotels Named as a Top Job Creator on Inc. Hire Power List

21c ranks among the top 100 job creators in the country

PRESS RELEASE – 21c Museum Hotels, the award-winning boutique hotel company and restaurant group, is featured in the 2nd annual Inc. Hire Power Awards, recognizing the private businesses that have generated the most jobs in the past three years.

21c Museum Hotels nearly tripled its number of full-time employees over the past two years, placing it among the top 100 private business job creators in the country. 21c ranks as the #1 job creator in the travel industry and the #1 Kentucky-based company. The company ranks #58 of 437 companies overall.

“Hiring talented people to serve our guests and to help drive our business is crucial to our continued growth,” said Craig Greenberg, President of 21c Museum Hotels. “We’ve created 215 new full-time positions in a growing hospitality company and have also focused on promoting from within. It is gratifying to watch our company and our team thrive in a culture of creative leadership and to be recognized by Inc. as a top job creator.”

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that only 222,000 full-time jobs were added in 2012—compare those numbers to the honorees of the Inc. magazine’s Hire Power Awards, which created 69,182 jobs between January 1, 2012 and June 30, 2013.

“For the second year in a row, we are pleased to recognize the employers who are putting Americans back to work,” says Eric Schurenberg, Editor-in-Chief of Inc. “The Hire Power Awards are the only awards that single out job creators. We think it’s fitting to pay tribute to company founders not just for their business prowess but also for their immense contribution to the welfare of U.S. workers and the vitality of the U.S. economy.”

In the past year, 21c Museum Hotels saw years of planning and development come to fruition with the opening of two new hotel properties in Cincinnati, OH and Bentonville, AR. In an extremely difficult economic climate, 21c was able to close over $80 million in financing for these projects. The company grew from a single property in downtown Louisville and standalone restaurant (Garage Bar in downtown Louisville’s East Market District) to encompass three hotels, four restaurants and over 500 employees. Construction is underway for a property in Durham, NC and a project has been announced in Lexington, KY. 21c was also named to this year’s Inc. 5000 list of America’s fastest growing companies with a three year growth rate of 673 percent.

21c properties have also received acclaim in this year’s prestigious Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards. 21c Museum Hotel in Cincinnati has been named the #1 hotel in the United States and #11 worldwide, with 21c Museum Hotel Louisville ranking #8 in the country and #46 in the world and 21c Museum Hotel Bentonville debuting at #11 in the country and #75 internationally.  The awards appear in the November issue and are the results of the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice survey with an unprecedented 1.3 million votes cast this year by nearly 80,000 participants.  Each hotel was also ranked as a top destination in its region, with 21c Cincinnati listed as #1 Hotel in the Midwest and 21c Louisville and 21c Bentonville earning the #1 and #2 spots respectively as the Top Hotels in the South, which also includes such properties as the St. Regis Atlanta, Ritz-Carlton Charlotte and Blackberry Farm in Tennessee.  The rankings are based on the quality of rooms, service, food and dining, location and overall design.

The Inc. Hire Power Award is for US-based, private companies (both for profit and non-profit). Companies must have been founded in 2011 or earlier and have employed at least 10 full-time US-based employees as of December 31, 2012. Companies must complete the Employee Verification Report. Top award finalists may also be asked to provide their 2012 EEO Employer Information Report.

Award categories include most jobs created in the US, most jobs created by state, most jobs created by industry and highest employee growth percentage,). Companies featured in Inc.’s November issue represent the top tier winners for the Higher Power Award and a complete list of the winners can be found on

About 21c Museum Hotels
21c Museum Hotels, the award-winning boutique hotel company and restaurant group, was founded by Laura Lee Brown and Steve Wilson, contemporary art collectors and preservationists committed to bringing works of art to the public through innovative exhibitions and programs that integrate contemporary art into daily life. These goals, coupled with their desire to participate in the revitalization of downtown Louisville led them to open the first 90-room property in 2006. With the success of 21c Louisville came opportunities for growth. 21c has opened hotels in Cincinnati, OH and Bentonville, AR. Construction is underway in Durham, NC and plans have been announced for a hotel in Lexington, KY.  Each 21c is unique in its site-specific art installations, architecture, design and restaurant. With a commitment to bringing works of art to the public that ignite the mind and fuel creativity, the museum exhibition space is integrated seamlessly throughout each property. There are opportunities to discover art around every corner of 21c: in the restaurant and bar, on the in-room Video Art Channel, in elevator lobbies, hallways, and even the public restrooms. 21c Museum presents a range of arts programming including thought-provoking solo and group exhibitions that reflect the global nature of art today, site-specific, commissioned installations as well as a variety of cultural programming. The museum is open free of charge to the public 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.
