Today’s Mint Julep recipe comes from our fantastic team at Counting House, in 21c Durham. They’ve been mixing up amazing cocktails since 2015, and this one is no different.

The Toki Run

The Toki Run is made with Japanese whiskey, which is closer to a scotch than the familiar American made whiskey. This adds an unexpected, but delicious twist on the standard Mint Julep. It’s creative, and breaks with the norm just enough to have your guests talking.

3 oz Toki Japanese Whiskey

1 oz Ginger syrup

4 Shiso mint leaves (Japanese mint)

Place 5 or 6 leaves of mint in the bottom of a prechilled, dry 12-ounce glass.
Add ginger syrup and crush slightly with a muddler.
Pack glass with finely cracked ice.
Pour a generous 3 ounces of Toki Japanese Whiskey over the ice.
Stir briskly until the glass frosts.
Add more ice and stir again before serving in a copper mug.
Stick a few sprigs of the japanese mint into the ice so that drinker will get the aroma.
