Jeff Bell joined the opening team at 21c Museum Hotel Durham in 2014. With an extensive background at other area museums – including the roles of Registrar at Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, Preparator at CAM Raleigh, and Gallery and Exhibitions Manager at CAM Raleigh – Jeff brought a wealth of experience and connections in the local art community.
“I came from traditional museum background. 21c is such a unique environment and I really enjoy working with the other departments and the variety of visitors. 21c has also challenged me to do much more public programming and public speaking than I had previously – which I enjoy.”
In his role, Jeff is tapped to wear many hats, but he sees the key skills being “art installation, staff training, public and private tours, public programming, art maintenance, understanding of local arts community.”
The long-time North Carolina resident was proud to see 21c take a political stance in the recent HB2 controversy. “Beyond the amazing art collection, I love that the company has taken a stand for the LGBT community and has created a place of inclusiveness. Installing new [artist designed] restroom signage in response to HB2 will always be a career highlight.”
