We’re now hiring for 21c Museum Hotel Durham and Counting House and we want YOU! In the next couple of weeks, we’ll be interviewing teammates from all our properties about their jobs and what it’s like to work a gig you feel good about.

The first interview is from Catherine Manabat, a bartender at Metropole located at 21c Museum Hotel Cincinnati. Catherine pens our monthly Bar Blips series and teaches a Sunday School cocktail class, so stop in to visit her!

What is your job?
Bartender

What skills are required?
If you can host a great party you can be a great bartender, it requires you to be a multi-tasker, you need to be able to perform the actual job (mixing drinks, taking orders) while still having fun, so that your guests have a great time. You have to be a great listener, a tour guide, an entertainer, a mind reader and it helps if you know how to make a proper cocktail, but above all you have to be the kind of person that will smile through it all.  

What do you love about working at 21c?
There are no limits and this is truly a company that celebrates each individual. We are part of this wonderful tapestry that creates an overall experience for the guest. I love that I get to be creative and that I am able to create a path for myself. The reason guests love 21c is because there is a sincerity you cannot duplicate in a manual or training handbook.  There is a certain luxury in loving your job and I work with amazing, inspirational individuals who all love coming to work, and that in evident in the atmosphere, and the pride we all take in our jobs.
