From a Cycling Town to the City of Fountains

Ready to hit the road for a trip, but not sure if you want to explore the great outdoors or experience the city? Why not do both?  From 21c Bentonville to 21c Kansas City or vice versa we have the perfect road trip planned to get the best of both worlds. Find yourself not ready to leave? Extend your stay at any 21c location with our Take Your Time offer.

KANSAS CITY

First stop, check-in with the Sky Blue Penguin. After settling in, explore the current exhibition OFF-SPRING: New Generations along with seeing some of our site-specific installations like, “Crystal Palace: The Great Exhibiton of the Works of Industry of all Nuclear Nations (U.S.A.).” Afterward, head to The Savoy to enjoy the culinary offerings from Executive Chef Brandon Brumback and his team.

Start your day with Mildred’s only two blocks from the hotel that has “The Best Breakfast Sandwich in the City”. Have a sweet tooth in the morning? Try a pastry from Banksia or go a healthy route with avocado toast and juice from Ruby Jean’s Juicery.

Time to experience all Kansas City has to offer because it is more than just jazz and BBQ (not that there is anything wrong with good brisket and good tunes!). From shopping at Country Club Plaza to hanging out in the Power & Light District there is always some fun happening around town. How about grabbing lunch while trying your hand at Pickleball? Or discover the story of prohibition with a tour at Tom’s Town? Rent a bike from B-Cycle, and ride along the Riverfront Heritage Trail where a paved path follows along the river and connects the Missouri and Kansas sides of the city. Worked up a sweat? Cool off at Yardhouse and find the largest selection of draft beer and elevated bar food. Grab a few snacks and taste local beers at Boulevard Brewery. Beer, not your thing? Amigoni Urban Winery may be more of your style with $8 tastings. Ready to get your barbeque fix? Local favorites include Gates BBQ, Jones BBQ, or Joes.

BENTONVILLE:

Welcome to 21c Bentonville, the perfect home base to explore all the outdoorsy goodness that Arkansas aptly called “The Natural State” has to offer. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by two dramatic pieces-Orange Treea large-scale sculpture, and Making ChangeFleetwood Cadillac limousine covered in thousands of coins. Once checked in be sure to take a self-guided tour of the current exhibition: “Refuge.” Ready to Dine with Art? Head to The Hive where “Buzzkill” a site-specific installation turns the restaurant into a work of art itself. Led by Executive Chef Matt McClure and his culinary team, The Hive proudly showcases the unique culinary identity of Arkansas while articulating refined country cuisine.

Ready to explore Bentonville? Stroll through The Crystal Bridges Art Museum to experience the power of art with the beauty of nature. A one of a kind of experience with both interior galleries and outdoor trails. The Hank Willis Thomas Exhibit: All Things Being Equal… has been extended. Thomas examines popular culture and how art can raise awareness in the ongoing struggle for social justice and civil rights. This past year, Crystal Bridges opened a brand new contemporary art space, The Momentary, which has been built in a former cheese plant.  Head up to The Tower bar for cocktails plus the best views in Bentonville. The dual exhibition between Crystal Bridges and The Momentary, State of the Art 2020 is free at both locations features work from a group of 61 diverse artists across the country.

Here for the great outdoors? We don’t blame you! Slaughter Pen Mountain Bike Park has something for everyone including clean flow, major downhills, technical rocks, and huge beams. There is also Razorback Regional Greenway: Running through an array of natural features, you’ll spot idyllic lakes, flowing creeks, and vistas while cycling on the Greenway. For those looking to just dip their toes into cycling, you can borrow one of 21c’s complimentary cruiser bikes to enjoy the sights of Downtown Bentonville.

After your outdoor adventure, explore Bentonville’s town square. Grab dinner and drinks from inside a historic church that doubles as an underground cocktail bar, Undercroft, and a local favorite restaurant, Preacher’s Son.

The next morning, start your day with Breakfast and Coffee to go from Onyx Coffee Lab. For a unique breakfast experience, head over to Louise – an all-day café in Thaden Fieldhouse so you can eat on the runway- watch planes take off or enjoy the lake views.
