21c: How did you meet?
JM: We were both ballet dancers with the Louisville Ballet and we met there.
21c: What were you looking for in a venue? How did you know you found the one?
JM: We were looking for something really unique and fun. More than half of our guest list was from out of town so it was important for us to have the wedding venue easily accessible for everyone. 21c was perfect because it is in the heart of downtown, close to a bunch of hotels and definitely filled our want for a “unique” venue!
21c: How many penguins are in your wedding album?
JM: 15! My cousin dropped one of the penguins on my head while we were all dancing. I woke up the next morning with an egg in my head!
21c: How did your wedding reflect who you are as a couple?
JM: We really just wanted to have a party celebrating our love for each other and for our guests to have a fun time. The ceremony was sweet and simple. We did not do the traditional sit-down dinner and instead had couches and furniture throughout the venue. It reflected our personality in the sense that we both are laid back but love to have fun too!
21c: What did your guests love most about 21c?
JM: You really can’t beat 21c. I think the guest enjoyed the uniqueness, location (easy to access so much of downtown to do some exploring), and of course, Proof on Main.
21c: What song got the most people on the dance floor?
JM: Honestly, I don’t remember what got other people on the dance floor. The night goes by so fast! But I do remember what got me on the dance floor and that was “Proud Mary” by Tina Turner. One of my best friends and I did a recital dance to that song when we were about nine so we were cracking up and trying to remember the choreography together.
21c: What was your favorite dish at the reception?
JM: I am not going to lie I did not eat at all that night. I had a few bites of my brother’s pasta before walking down the aisle. But we had the ricotta dip from Proof at the reception and I can guarantee that would have been my favorite!
21c: If you channel some magic penguin-godmother magic and relive your favorite moment from your wedding day, what would it be?
JM: It would definitely be the first look with Ryan. We were debating even doing it and I am so glad that we did. Seeing him before walking down the aisle took away every bit of nerves I was feeling. It was really special.
21c: Do you have any tips for brides-to-be to make their day as stress-free as possible?
JM: The process is going to be stressful no matter what but I highly recommend finding people you enjoy working with. Everyone from my coordinator (Weekend Wedding Warrior), florist and planner (Andrea Glass from Boston’s Floral Couture), hair and makeup stylist (Carley Randall), photographers (Kriech-Higdon Photography) and the staff at 21c made our special day truly stress free.
