21c: Tell us your proposal story.

KM: We were long distance at the time; he was in Lousiville, and I lived in Chicago. Marc came to visit for the Christmas holiday. Christmas Eve, we went to lunch with a couple of friends, which I thought was odd because he was insistent that we go to dinner that evening to celebrate our missed anniversary. Post lunch, my friend and I proceeded to get our nails done, she came back to my place and was all too detailed about my outfit for dinner. A few hours later, I was still stuffed from lunch and was picked up by Marc for dinner (my mother, friend, and grandmother all at the door, waving us off). When we got to dinner, Marc didn’t order a thing, but rambled on and seemed off the entire night. I went to the bathroom to text my friend how weird he was being, and when I returned our favorite song was playing; I teased that he must have cornily requested it. Moments later, I saw flashes. My immediate family and friend group were to my right recording. My jaw dropped and I looked at Marc who smiled and started to propose. I cried immediately.

21c: What were you looking for in a venue? How did you know you found the one?

KM: We were actually set on a destination wedding. I bought into the wedding craze and our budget got a little scary. Two venues, and a surprise baby later – Marc and I were sitting in Proof on Main and it hit us that it was the perfect place for an intimate, modern wedding.

21c: What are people still talking about from your wedding?

KM: The signature cocktail – a Marc-A-Rita. It was quite the hit!

21c: What was your favorite dish from the reception?

KM: The prime rib – AMAZING!

21c: How did your wedding reflect who you are as a couple?

KM: 21c was the perfect representation of Marc and me – untraditional, bold, a bit quirky. It was one of the first places Marc took me when he tried to sell me on moving to Louisville with him and has remained a place we frequent to admire the art.

21c: What did your guests love most about 21c?

KM: They loved EVERYTHING! What I kept hearing, however, was how sweet and accommodating the staff was. It meant the world to me that 21c made sure everything was perfect not just for Marc and me, but for our guests as well.

21c: Who had more fun getting ready–the bridesmaids or the groomsmen? (You can agree to disagree!)

KM: The groomsmen, for sure! My bridesmaids and I were in prep mode starting at 6 a.m. I called Marc once during our prep and found they were stuffing their faces and playing card games. We, on the other hand, were practicing not falling in our shoes.

21c: What song got the most people on the dance floor?

KM: You know, fairly certain it was a Bodak Yellow, by Cardi B. Hilarious! Who doesn’t love Cardi?!

21c: Which piece of art got the most selfie love from your guests?

KM: The cool interactive work “Text Rain” by the elevators.
