Derby season is almost upon us, and at Proof on Main we’re gearing up for what is sure to be an influx of bourbon revelry. In honor of the season, Louisville has ordained the month of April Mint Julep Month, and bartender Cillian Browne has developed a spin on the classic Mint Julep recipe. With Four Roses Single Barrel and coffee beans, this updated drink adds some kick to your Mint Julep enjoyment.
The Gent
2oz Four Roses Single Barrel Bourbon
.5oz Ramazzotti Amaro
.25oz Cardamaro
20 Mint Sprigs
8-10 Coffee Beans
Add 8-10 mint sprigs of mint into a Mint Julep cup, muddle and set aside. Muddle your coffee beans in a mixing glass, then gently muddle 8-10 mint sprigs in your mixing glass. Add Bourbon, Ramazzotti and Cardamaro to the mixing glass. Stir for 20-30 secs, allowing enough time for the coffee beans to infuse with the Bourbon. Double strain into Julep cup. Add crushed ice, stir and top with more crushed ice. Express orange peel over top and garnish with mint, Cacao stick and orange peel.
