Time to put your mustache on! Proof’s Annual Repeal Day celebration is here.

On December 5th, 1933 something wonderful happened in the midst of The Great Depression.  The 18th Amendment (you know, that truly horrible one that literally ripped the booze right out of our mouths?) was abolished, giving the downtrodden people of America something to finally celebrate.  Can you imagine how bad the hangovers were on December 6th?

Each year, 21c likes to celebrate the free flow of the past several decades and will hold their annual Repeal Day celebration on December 5th.  As with years past the team at Proof on Main will be dressing up in early 20th century garb to commemorate the occasion and guests that night are encouraged to come dressed in their own satin spats and fringe dresses.  To keep up with tradition, bowls of fake moustaches will litter the lounge so that you and your friends can drink up like the Dapper Dan you always knew deep down you were.

While the usual cocktail list will be available there will also be a new list solely dedicated to the cocktails of the era.  Expect twists on old favorites like the Old Fashioned or Manhattan and on lesser known libations such as the Corpse Reviver #2.  Chris Wilkins, veteran proof bartender responsible for such favorites as the Lazy Eye and Death’s Grip, is responsible for the list this year and has done a lot of homework to curate the selections.  Chea Beckley, Proof’s Beverage Manager says “he scoured his literature and pulled some very interesting cocktails spanning different styles at the time.”

What cocktail is Beckley and the team most excited for you to try this year? The Champs-Élysées.  Beckley says that “this cocktail incorporates two of my favorite spirits, cognac and green Chartreuse. It was first printed in the 1930 Savoy Cocktail Book by the venerable Harry Craddock.  It is a bright, herbaceous play on the popular Sidecar and is sure to set the tone for the evening.”

Cheers!
