The gallery has evolved as a platform and showcase for investigating the way we assign meaning and value to the objects we wear. Located in the heart of Downtown Louisville’s NuLu district at 803 East Market Street, the gallery incorporates a jewelry studio where the owner, Julia Comer, focuses on the development of the FLOW Collection, which she designs and crafts by hand.
About the milliners
Tonya Gross Millinery
Tonya Gross is an award-winning bespoke and couture milliner based in Chicago. From hedge fund to headwear… After years of working in the financial services industry, Tonya turned a life-long passion for hats into a headwear design business. She creates headwear for her female and male clients, for the runway and for her seasonal collections using the finest materials.
Tonya is inspired by her many travels but mostly by the city of Chicago, her wildly fabulous friends the “Chicago 7” and the woods in the small town in northern Michigan where she was raised. Tonya is adamant about recycling and incorporates elements of nature, upcycled objects as well as traditional millinery materials into her work. Each piece is one-of-a-kind, crafted for individuals who think outside the (hat) box.
Cindy Kalnow for Sevigne Atelier
Cindy is a self-taught milliner and needle worker. She studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Previously she had designed the Satchelsful collection of handbags sold at Barney’s NY and Japan, Fred Segel and Tweeds Catalog amongst others. Cindy resides in Chicago, Illinois, with New York, Paris and Germany as travel venues for creative inspiration whenever she can visit.
The Sevigne collection is designed in homage to legendary fashion and millinery design of the 1930’s to 1950’s. The daring avant-garde styles of the period, impeccable attention to detail and technique provide endless creative inspiration for modern millinery design. Ladies’ fashion hats sold in these heyday years were sculptural and outrageous, often gravity defying and definitely whimsical. It is Cindy’s passion to honor the courageous style of these legendary hat makers in the spirit of her contemporary millinery today.
Joy Scott Millinery
Joy Scott is an award-winning British Milliner, with a passion for the unique. She creates one-of-a-kind hats for all occasions, including bridal. Joy finds inspiration in nearly everything – from the architectural shapes of buildings to modern furniture designs and sculptural shapes. Joy’s hats are meticulously crafted using couture European methods, and with the finest felts, straws and other materials.
