Spending the Holidays in Lexington

Your guide to spending the holidays in Lexington this year.

Festive lights and holiday delights! Whether you’re a local or passing through, Lexington is the perfect place to find holiday activities for the whole family. Make the most of your holiday visit to Lexington with these activities:

What would be the Holiday season without the lights?! Those twinkling lights brighten up those dark winter evenings. Lexington has our Christmas Tree Lighting on Sunday, November 28th in Triangle Park. If you can’t make it for the first lighting you can still enjoy the lights and stroll around downtown and take in all the décor. You can also stop to show off your moves on the ice at the Ice Rink also located in Triangle Park.

Experience over one million holiday lights along a 3-mile road through the historic Kentucky Horse Park at the Southern Lights display (Nov 26 – Dec 31). After your drive through stop and enjoy the Holiday Village that features visits with Santa, Santa’s North Pole Mailbox (where children can drop off their Christmas List), Animal Land, Mini Train rides, Bluegrass Miniature Train Display, and the Kentucky Horse Park Gift Shop.  Grab a quick snack in the village or sit down for dinner at Tootie’s Peppermint Café to complete your visit.

Get in the Holiday Spirit with Christmas Tea at Waveland. This historic sight goes all out on a traditional Christmas décor and celebration. Each room has a different themed tree to set the vibe as you sip on Christmas tea, enjoy your favorite holiday flavors from the delightful food, and even receive a small gift from Waveland! After you are able to join on a tour of the mansion. Looking for more traditional celebrations? The Nutcracker at the Lexington Opera House is back this year plan your visit and get your tickets before they sell out!

While you are out exploring all of Lexington’s best holiday celebrations, you can even knock out some gift shopping at one of our many great local shops. We compiled a list of some of our favorite places to get gifts, read more here

Venture a little outside of Lexington to Mustard Seed Hill in Millersburg, Kentucky. Stroll through 3-acres of breath-taking lights, enjoy music, gather with friends or family, or shop for the perfect gift at The Artisan’s Market featuring 60+ artists providing more than 200 handmade products. The highlight of your night may just be the stunning display of gingerbread houses that are submitted as part of the 3rd Annual Gingerbread House Competition. You could also head over to Louisville to check out their many Holiday Activities, read more here
