Yoga with Art Instructor Rose Friesen Tells All

When one imagines a yoga studio a museum may not be the first place that comes to mind.  A hotel and restaurant may not be the first things that come to mind either, but at 21c Museum Hotel Bentonville we like to think out of the box (or off of the yoga mat).  Each Sunday afternoon we invite you to come into our gallery space to stretch your horizons with our weekly series, Yoga with Art.

“On one hand, we are all individual works of art with our own beauty, uniqueness, and opportunity to create a body and a life that we love,” says instructor and Registered Yoga Teacher Rose Friesen when asked her opinion about practicing yoga in such a unique space. “In that way, we really become performance artists, performing and crafting our art within the museum.  Art museums are by nature beautiful spaces with amazing light, acoustics and energy.  Spaces such as these can inspire us to go further into our practice, giving us an opportunity to experience things we may not experience otherwise.”

Friesen, who took up yoga practice in 2011 after prolonged stresses in her life began to take a toll on her health, says that yoga has given her the wellbeing she sought out. She continues, “yoga has many faces and there are a number of different options available to suit different goals and needs.  In Vinyasa Flow Yoga we combine movement and breath, turning static asanas (body positions) into a dynamic flow.  By using our own body’s resistance, we develop mental and physical flexibility, strength, and balance.”

All skill levels are welcome and Friesen assures that she teaches challenging, yet accessible, vinyasa flow classes that offer modifications for both beginner and advanced students.  Adding, “I also encourage students to do what feels best, take breaks as needed, and remember yoga is called “practice” for a reason.”

Yoga with Art classes are now being held each Saturday from 10am-11am.  Sessions are $5 at the door and participants are asked to provide their own water, towels and to BYOM (bring your own mat).  Arrive early as space is limited.
