Art Moves is a unique, free experience that explores the ways that art, movement, and creative expression enhance our experience of the world and contribute to our mental and physical wellness. Art today can offer solace and insight, meaning and purpose. Together we will talk about how this is explored in artworks included in the 21c exhibition Still, Life! Mourning, Meaning, Mending. The works in this exhibition recall history, reflect and refract our current awareness, and help us to find meaning and purpose as we continue to confront and reckon with the intersections of COVID-19, civic trauma, and the climate crisis. Movement and personal creative expression are also vital to wellness and we will continue the experience with a collaborative exploration of movement and creative expression. Ashley Thursby Kern of the Louisville Ballet mind. body. balance. program will lead a series of different styles of movement inspired by several artworks designed to allow the processing of image into feeling into movement. And, art therapist Jennifer Kramer will guide the creation of drawings with the aim of translating these conversations and movements to paper, bringing together visual expression and movement.

Participation is free and open to all ages and abilities. We recommend wearing clothes you can move freely in and that you don’t mind getting a little dirty.

> Advance registration is required as there is limited space available. Email kgillenwater@21cmuseum.org to sign up.

About Jennifer Kramer Art Therapy
Jennifer Kramer is an artist, licensed art therapist, and online coach who helps women overcome the lasting effects of narcissistic abuse. She is founder of The Redefined Process– an approach that uses a combination of spontaneous artmaking and responsive writing. Jennifer developed this process while recovering from her own experience with narcissistic abuse and discovered that the key to growth was to stop reading about narcissism, and to reconnect with and redefine her own identity. The Redefined Process works because it engages our bodies and minds in such a way that subconscious emotions, limiting beliefs and desires are brought to the surface and (quite literally) made visible.

Jennifer meets with clients both in person and virtually, from her unique, storefront studio-shop at Mellwood Art Center in Louisville, KY. Coaching and therapy clients may also connect with her via the mobile app – Redefined-by Jennifer Kramer, available in all app stores. For the web version, go here: https://redefined-by-jenniferkramer.passion.io/

About Mental Health Lou
Mental Health Lou is a collaboration between mental health practitioners, non-profit groups, agencies and our community members to promote mental wellness resources in Louisville.
