Unlearn Fear + Hate Reveal

August 11, 2016 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Free and open to the public

Join us as 21c Museum Director and Chief Curator Alice Gray Stites unveils the public art project Unlearn Fear + Hate by Lexington-based artists Kremena Todorova and Kurt Ghode. This participatory and multi-venue project will start outside 21c Museum on Upper street – the nexus of a conversation between 21st century art and the most visible symbols of Lexington’s difficult history.

21c Lexington welcomes this participatory art project as we continue to support local artists, community dialogue, and engagement with a civic conversation affecting all of Lexington’s residents.

Todorova and Ghode have gathered leaders from city government, multi-faith institutions, arts and cultural establishments, and educators – to unveil this inspiring artwork, and extend an invitation to all of Lexington: Come participate in Unlearn Fear + Hate.

The artists will take photos of members of the community in front of the halo from 11am-6pm. Participants are encouraged to share their “selfies” on social media using the hashtag #UnlearnFearandHate. The photos will also be shared a Unlearn Fear + Hate Facebook group.

Speakers include:
Alice Gray Stites – Museum Director and Chief Curator 21c Museum Hotels
Steve Kay – Vice Mayor of Lexington
Nan Plummer – LexArts
Ashley Smith – Lyric Theater
Brian Cole – Good Shepherd Episcopal
Adrian Wallace – NAACP
