Condé Nast Traveler Readers Vote 21c Cincinnati to Top 100 Hotels in the World

PRESS RELEASE – 21c Museum Hotel Cincinnati has been named the #1 Hotel in the Midwest and the #2 Hotel in the United States in the 2014 Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards. The property also ranked #29 in the world. The awards appear in the November issue and are the results of the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice survey with over 1 million votes cast this year by nearly 77,000 participants. The rankings are based on the quality of rooms, service, food and dining, location and overall design. 21c Cincinnati also earned top honors in last year’s survey.

Located in the center of downtown Cincinnati’s arts district, adjacent to the Contemporary Arts Center and across the street from the Aronoff Center for the Arts, the 156-room hotel (609 Walnut Street) features 8,000 square feet of exhibition space solely dedicated to exhibiting the art of the 21st century. The Museum is open to the public free of charge, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and offers rotating curated exhibitions, site-specific multi-media installations, and other cultural programming such as poetry readings, film screenings, artist lectures, and live performances.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, 21c Cincinnati has renovated and reenergized the historic Metropole Hotel building. The property also includes The Spa at 21c; Cocktail Terrace, a seasonal rooftop bar; and Metropole restaurant, featuring a menu that revolves around a custom-built, wood-burning fireplace. Designed by New York-based architecture firm Deborah Berke Partners, the design integrates many of the building’s original features, including the exterior terra cotta tile, a sweeping staircase leading to the second floor ballroom and the original mosaic tile floors in the restaurant and elevator lobby.

About the Readers’ Choice Awards
Methodology: The Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Survey, begun in 1988, is available through a secure website at condenasttraveler.com/vote. This year’s tabulations of the 76,659 responses were done by Equation Research. Organization: The questionnaire contains lists of candidates in various categories (Cities, Hotels, etc.). Candidates must receive a required minimum number of responses to be eligible for a Readers’ Choice Award. Evaluation: Individual candidates are judged on a set of criteria relevant to their category, based on a standard five-point scale: excellent, very good, good, fair, and poor. The mean average of these ratings determines the final score published—a departure from 26 years of calculating only the percentage of excellent and very good ratings. For example, in South Africa, Londolozi’s score of 98.958 represents the mean average of ratings it received from all respondents for all criteria relevant to resorts: Rooms, Service, Location, Food/Dining, Design, Activities/Facilities, and Value (new in 2014). For more information visit www.cntraveler.com/rca.
