CANCELLED – Opening Celebration for Wim Botha: Still Life with Discontent
March 20, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Free and open to the publicAs no doubt you are aware, there has been a notable increase in the number of diagnosed cases of COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) in recent days. We have been monitoring the situation closely, and out of an abundance of caution, have decided to postpone the opening reception for our new exhibitions in Louisville that were planned for Friday, March 20. As excited as we are to celebrate Wim Botha: Still Life with Discontent and Truth or Dare: A Reality Show at 21c Louisville, the safety and well-being of our team, our guests, and our community are of the utmost importance. We appreciate, value, and thank you for your support of 21c. We will be in touch as we identify a new date and look forward to celebrating with you soon.
Wim Botha: Still Life with Discontent is Botha’s first solo museum exhibition in the U.S., featuring works that span his career. Botha’s art is a study in contrasts: his pieces are simultaneously sacred yet profane, heavy yet light, and stable yet unsettled. Through his varying materials and subject matter, this South African artist explores weighty issues of history, status, power, and religion, referencing a range of art historical influences while resisting fixed interpretation.
