Lecture with Bernheim visiting artist Patrick Dougherty
April 24, 2012 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Free and open to the public21c is excited to partner with Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest to present a free public lecture by visiting artist Patrick Dougherty on Tuesday, April 24 at 6pm.
About the artist
Dougherty has created over 200 works worldwide, and his large-scale, whimsical sculptures draw visitors into the energy, magnitude and beauty of nature, influenced by the hands of the artist. His work is unique and built to fit the site, playing with perspectives, views and other components of the landscape.
Dougherty will be at Bernheim for a three-week installation of woven willow art, that will delight and inspire visitors – during construction, and for years to come. Like much of the art found at Bernheim, the work itself will evolve as it weathers and ages – a beautiful, natural process – and will one day return to nature. Over the three- to four-year life-expectancy of the sculpture, visitors will be intrigued, inspired and often amused by this larger-than-life installation.
