Join 21c Museum and Land of Tomorrow (LOT) Gallery for a lecture by renowned contemporary art curator Alanna Heiss on Wednesday, February 22nd in the 21c Atrium Gallery at 6:30pm.

Louisville-born Heiss is one of the founders of the alternative exhibition space movement, and started the Clocktower Gallery in New York in 1972. Heiss went on to found P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center in 1976, and was its Director until 2008. In 2003, she started Art International Radio, the first all-art museum radio station. Heiss has organized hundreds of exhibitions in art spaces around the world, and was Commissioner of the 1985 Paris Biennial and Commissioner of the 1986 American Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. She has received numerous awards including France’s Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres, the Royal Swedish Order of the Polar Star, and the CCS Bard Award for Curatorial Excellence. In 2008, she curated Arctic Hysteria, a show of Finnish art which has since traveled to Spain, Hungary and Russia, among other cities. In 2010, she organized the first visual arts show of James Franco and edited the exhibition catalogue (Rizzoli). She has published catalogues on the work of Alex Katz, Dennis Oppenheim, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Katharina Sieverding, and John Wesley, among numerous others. She is a self-described art radical and was recently featured in The New York Times.
