Haiku and Hybrid Forms Workshop

January 13, 2019 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 1:00 pm on Sunday, repeating until February 17, 2019

Find creative inspiration at 21c Louisville during a Haiku workshop organized by Louisville Literary Arts. This 6-week workshop will meet in our galleries on Sunday afternoons from 1-3pm January 13 – February 17, led by instructor Jim Warner. Pre-registration is required.

In this workshop, writers will explore the world of haiku and its associated writing forms. Through a series of contemporary readings and writing exercises (including an Urban Nature Walk), writers will familiarize themselves with the fundamental elements of the form–the value of breath, clarity of image, and power of juxtaposition. While writing haiku, writers will discover the versatility of this traditional writing form, breaking the perception and pattern of 5-7-5. Along with exploring haiku, writers will also examine and create pieces in hybrid forms associated with haiku including haibun (prose/haiku) and haiga (visual art/haiku).

The class will conclude with a student reading that is open to the public on February 19 from 6-8PM at 21c Museum Hotel Louisville.
