ABOUT ATG: Against The Grain Brewery is Louisville’s first brewer-owned brewery and, like most worthwhile undertakings, the product of dissatisfaction with the status quo. The Louisville area has had a number of quality brewpubs for some time now, but still there was simply not enough beer! Against the Grain is an effort to help solve this problem. We maintain a diverse array of beers covering many of the major categories of beer flavor while generating an endless stream of innovative new brews. In short, everything is “specialty” and boredom will be extremely difficult. At Against The Grain, we have thrown out the traditional mode of thought and shifted our attention to producing amazing beer consistently, which can be any given style or have any twist on it. We hang our hats on quality and want you to know, there is a world of options out there and we make them!
Our beat laboratory, I mean brewery, is nestled in the corner of Louisville Slugger Field in downtown Louisville, KY. It is a 15bbl brew-house, copper clad, and set on three tiered levels. Much like the old Victorian brew-houses, it sucks ass to make beer there, but it’s ours, and we love it. We are producing at capacity and bottle some of your favorites in house (Bo & Luke, Kentucky Ryed Chiquen, Mac Fanny Baw & the All Funked Up series). So if you find yourself in Louisville, stop in, and (as Jerry would say) get a ‘drinky-poo’ with us!
At the helm of AtG are brewers/cohorts/cajolers; Jerry Gnagy, Sam Cruz, Adam Watson, and Andrew Ott and all share a variety of backgrounds. Jerry brings an award winning brew history, Sam has deep ties to both the beer and artistic communities, Adam is a licensed attorney who would rather practice beer, and Andrew has over a decade of restaurant management and micro green farming experience. The ‘guys at AtG’, as we are often called, are focused on a consistency in the quality of the beers we produce. That said, we are artists and it is important that we are able to express ourselves, however inappropriate we may be (see The Brown Note). No seriously, drinking beer is about having a good time. With the emphasis being on ‘good’! We hope you enjoy our beers, as they are the focal point of our work, but we also hope that you enjoy our sense of humor (an array of dick and fart jokes) and fascination with the 80’s and early 90’s pop culture (I meant to think that)! But I digress… Drink amazing beer. Drink AtG Beer.
