ELLIS Film Screening
November 22, 2015 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Free and open to the public21c Museum Hotel Louisville is pleased to work with Kentucky Refugee Ministries to present the film ELLIS, along with the opportunity to hear personal stories from refugees who recently immigrated from Cuba and Iraq who are now living in our community.
These speakers will be followed by a screening of the short film ELLIS. The film awakens our collective memory, taking you back to the early years of Ellis Island through the experience of one immigrant. Set in the abandoned Ellis Island Hospital complex and using JR’s UNFRAMED art installations, ELLIS tells the forgotten story of the immigrants who built America. It is the story of the ghosts of our countries past, the individuals who fled poverty, discrimination, and dictatorships, for a chance at a new life and eerily foreshadows the plight of those who currently seek the same opportunities and safety in this country and other parts of the world. This short narrative film stars Academy Award Winner Robert De Niro, is written by Academy Award Winner Eric Roth, and is directed by the artist JR.
Kentucky Refugee Ministries, Inc. (KRM), a non-profit organization, is dedicated to providing resettlement services to refugees in order to promote self-sufficiency and successful integration into our community. KRM is committed to offering access to community resources and opportunities and to promoting awareness of diversity for the benefit of the whole community.
