You’re invited to join us for tours of 21c Louisville’s exhibition The Future is Female with featured artists Gaela Erwin, Tiffany Carbonneau, and Kathleen McQuade Olliges. Investigating identity, consumer culture, ecology, history, and mythology, the art featured in The Future is Female reflects the legacy of feminist art and illuminates the essential role of art to reveal and question how we live and engage ourselves, others, and the world we shape and share. The affirmation of the self as subject and the prevalence of craft-based practices and materials in 21st-century art is a legacy of the feminist art of the 1970s. The artworks in this exhibition affirm this legacy, merge art with activism, express female identity and experience, and interrogate power through self-expression. We hope that you will join us to hear from these artists about their works and the exhibition.
