ABOUT THE ARTIST
Natalie Baxter says that she first learned to quilt from her Granny on Kingdom Come Creek in eastern Kentucky. Today, the artist uses soft sculptures and videos to playfully explore concepts of place-identity, nostalgic Americana, and traditional gender stereotypes, to create an accessible entry point for unpacking matters of tension in today’s political and social landscape.
Baxter received her BA in Fine Art from the University of the South in Sewanee, TN in 2007 and her MFA from the University of Kentucky in 2012. Her work has been exhibited internationally and locally, including at 21c Lexington and the Institute 193, and featured in publications like The New York Times, Vice, Hyperallergic, Huffington Post, and The Guardian. She currently lives and works in New York, NY.
