This symposium explores how regional artists, gallerists, activists, and curators, rooted in the hyper-local, navigate geographic boundaries and consider other contexts for their creative practices. The panelists are regionally based, working in Kentucky, Detroit, Chicago, and Pennsylvania. Together we can see how place, history, circumstance, trauma, geography, and collaboration have imbued their work with global relevance.
Moderator:
Alice Gray Stites, Museum Director and Chief Curator at 21c Museum Hotels. She curates exhibitions, site-specific commissions, and a range of cultural programming across all 21c locations: Louisville, Cincinnati, Bentonville, Durham, Lexington, Oklahoma City, Nashville, Kansas City , Chicago, and soon, St Louis.

Christine Huskisson, artist and Co-Founder/Publisher of UnderMain, curates this sixth year of the Critical Mass Visual Arts Series in collaboration with the Great Meadows Critic-in-Residence.
