Opening Reception for A Global Gathering: The 21c Collection
January 27, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 11:55 pm
Free and open to the publicJoin us for an opening reception for A Global Gathering: The 21c Collection. Enjoy a tour of the new exhibition with Chief Curator Alice Gray Stites at 6pm, followed by drinks and bites from Metropole and music in the museum until midnight.
The newest exhibition presented by 21c, A Global Gathering, is a selection of highlights from the permanent collection by artists from fifteen countries. The 80 works on display reflect how we live and die, work, play, and dream in the 21st century. The paintings, sculptures, photographs, videos, and installations included explore the collection’s hallmark themes: identity, politics, and the environment. 21c was founded in 2006 by Laura Lee Brown and Steve Wilson, contemporary art collectors and preservationists who are committed to expanding access to thought-provoking art. Artists both internationally known and emerging are represented in the 21c collection: Chuck Close, Anthony Goicolea, Ori Gersht, and Zanele Muholi have been collected and exhibited by museums across the globe, while Taylor Baldwin, Gabriel Lester, Mohau Modisakeng, and others are just stepping onto the world’s art stage.
