ArkansasStaged Presents a Staged Reading of “Dear Elizabeth” by Sarah Ruhl
February 25, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Free and open to the publicArkansasStaged presents a staged reading of Dear Elizabeth by Sarah Ruhl at 21c Bentonville. The innovative and moving play is based on the 30-year friendship between two of the most celebrated poets of the 20th century: Elizabeth Bishop and Robert Lowell. They were rarely in the same place at the same time, but from 1947 until Lowell’s sudden death in 1977, the two exchanged more than 400 letters in which they narrate large and small events in their often-rocky paths through life: work, travel, illnesses, romantic relationships and the deep affection they had for each other. Sarah Ruhl is one of the most adventurous playwrights at work today. Using actual letters, with postmarks from around the country and around the world, she has fashioned a touching portrait of two literary giants, and an homage to writing and friendship.
Dear Elizabeth is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, INC.
