21café: Introduction to Carrie Mae Weems
December 4, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Free and open to the publicGather ‘round for a casual evening of conversation, cocktails and contemporary art. Whether you’re a budding young arts patron or just looking for a relaxed evening of culture, 21café welcomes all and is free and open to the public.
In December, please join us as we provide an introduction to the work of 21c artist Carrie Mae Weems in anticipation of her Distinguished Speaker Lecture at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art on FRI 12.08.17. Weems is considered one of the most influential contemporary American artists today, investigating family relationships, cultural identity, sexism, class, political systems, and the consequences of power. She has developed a complex body of artwork employing photographs, text, fabric, audio, digital images, installation, and video. We are thrilled to introduce you to Weems through a screen of four short films; “Compassion,” “Grace Notes: Reflections for Now,” “Kitchen Table Series,” and “Roaming.”
