21café
March 21, 2014 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
free and open to the publicGather ’round for a casual evening of conversation, cocktails and contemporary art. Whether you’re a budding young arts patron or just looking for a relaxed evening of culture, 21café welcomes all – and is free and open to the public. The evening will begin in The Hive’s Lounge Gallery – where guests are welcome to grab a libation at The Hive’s bar – followed by a tour by Museum Manager Dayton Castelman. Conversation and dialogue are encouraged! Afterwards, continue the conversation in the Art Yard (weather permitting) for more fun around the fire pit.
March’s event will focus on new exhibition OFF-SPRING: New Generations. Rituals—religious and cultural, institutional and domestic—provide the thematic infrastructure for OFF-SPRING: New Generations. Exploring the development of both personal and group identity, childhood, family, history, and gender politics, these sculptures, paintings, photographs, and videos employ iconographic imagery to reveal how we live, love, and learn in the 21st century. At the family dinner table, the wedding altar, or in the classroom, within the fantasy of childhood play or the familiarity of grown-up habit, these new, old narratives generate a spectrum of meditations on the contemporary construction of self and society.
