Selina Trepp’s stop motion animation, Working the Flow, 2023 is the second site-specific artwork created for Elevate: Rm 921. Projected onto a 48-foot wall, the film is only viewable after dusk and from the windows of 21c Chicago guests with interior-facing rooms. 21c Chicago commissions an artist annually to create an immersive and experiential moving-image work in response to the space and address complex issues that shape our diverse and rapidly changing world.

About the Film
A cycle of creation, entropy and maintenance.
In the city, this built environment, everything is subject to decay and flux. To exist it must be maintained and updated. So, we find new solutions, which then require maintenance, eventually also succumbing to time, to new ideas. We are moving forward, backward, forward… We ebb, we flow, we work it.
– Selina Trepp

About the Artist
Selina Trepp (Swiss/American b.1973) is an artist researching economy and improvisation.

Finding a balance between the intuitive and conceptual is a goal, living a life of adventure is a way, new perspectives are a result. She works across media and space, combining performance, installation, painting, and sculpture to create intricate setups that result in photos, drawings and animations.

In addition to the studio-based work, Selina is active in the experimental music scene. In this context she sings and plays the videolah, her midi controlled video synthesizer, to create projected animations in real-time as visual music. She performs with a varying cast of collaborators and as one half of Spectralina.
