Please join us for the opening reception of Truth or Dare: A Reality Show. Enjoy a cocktail reception at 5:30pm, followed by opening remarks from Chief Curator Alice Gray Stites, and a special presentation by featured artist Federico Solmi at 7pm.
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
The confusion of reality with its replica and the slippery slide into alternative worlds of alternative facts has become familiar territory. The artworks in Truth or Dare emphasize the importance of questioning both knowledge and belief, featuring works that utilize illusion to entice, entertain, and explore the terrain between fact and fiction, presence and absence, reality and imagination. Facing continuing global strife, political instability, and economic disparity, the artworks speak truth to power through unconventional, often playful juxtapositions of imagery and materials.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Federico Solmi is a multidisciplinary artist who utilizes emerging technologies to reveal the hypocrisies in contemporary society, making art with political and social commentary as a means to disrupt the power structure of our technological age. Solmi confronts the audience with his own absurd rewriting of past and present-day events by staging a virtual world in which the powerful become puppets, animated by computer scripts rather than strings.
