Join us for a free screening of “Blissfully Yours” as part of Oklahoma City Museum of Art‘s spring film series, Strange Creatures: The Feature Films of Apichatpong Weerasethakul.
Winner of the Un Certain Regard prize at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival, Apichatpong’s first fiction feature is a rapturous, boldly experimental romantic idyll set in the dense forests along the Burmese-Thai border. “Blissfully Yours” follows Min, an illegal immigrant from Burma with a chronic skin condition, and Roong, a young woman who works in a souvenir factory, as they take the day off for a clandestine picnic in the country. Like the enchanted lovers in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the characters fall under the spell of their pastoral surroundings, awakening to a growing romantic attraction. A lyrical, low-key drama composed with a flawless eye for light and space, Blissfully Yours incorporates playful avant-garde inspired flourishes that echo Apichatpong’s experimental films and installations.
