A Los Angeles-based visual artist, musician, and videographer, Yung Jake identifies himself as “established on the Internet in 2011.” He is best known for his rap videos that integrate the worlds of hip-hop, technology, social media, and contemporary art. For 21c Nashville, Yung Jake designed custom digital wallpaper for a suite that features three of his paintings that combine found objects, painting, and digital imagery reflecting the intersection of popular culture, technology, and identity today, offering viewers an immersive experience created by a truly 21st-century imagination.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Yung Jake completed his BFA at the California Institute of the Arts in 2012. Datamosh (2011) parodied the trend in music video of datamoshing (a digital technique that distorts images) while playing to a contemporary digital art audience. In E.m-bed.de/d (2012), he commented on the pursuit of Internet fame. His work has been screened at Sundance (2013) and he has performed in Los Angeles at the Hammer Museum, Redcat (2013), Museum of Contemporary Art (2014) and at the Museum of Modern Art, New York in April 2016. In 2017, his work was included in ARS17, Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art, Helsinki.
