21c’s Elevate program features artwork from local artisans on each guest room floor. In Nashville, you’ll find the work of local artists, Ashley Trabue, currently on display. While hiking around Radnor Lake in the Tennessee State Park, Trabue first noticed similarities between the calming ripples of the water and the dimpling of her thighs. This observation caused her to question: why hadn’t she been taught to appreciate the latter as much as the former? Seeking to eliminate the shame often felt toward the body’s perceived imperfections, Trabue’s photographs intimately explore the human figure, inviting viewers to approach the body with awe and respect, sentiments often reserved for natural wonders.
Ashley Trabue is a queer, multi-disciplinary artist based in Nashville, TN. Drawing from a background in human development, Trabue explores radical self-acceptance through painting, photography, poetry, and design.
