Get ready to groove! Join us on Friday, January 24th at 7pm for Outside the Spotlight with the Chris Comer Trio!
From Cincinnati, Ohio, jazz pianist and composer Chris Comer called the first CC3 recording session during the COVID lockdowns, assembling the most creative musicians he knew to explore original compositions and improvisations that blended jazz, rock, and everything in between. Inspired by downtown NYC artists like Naked City, Last Exit, Zorn, Laswell, Frith, classic Brian Eno, and electric Miles Davis, Comer and drummer Bart Foster have been improvising together since the 1980s, with Comer’s unique Fender Rhodes sound, enhanced by pedalboard effects, often resembling spaceships. Foster, from Perrysburg, Ohio, brings rhythmic energy shaped by his journey from punk rock to modern jazz, while Tucson, Arizona’s Michael Ronstadt, a visionary cellist, pushes the boundaries of his instrument to complete the trio. For OTS #232, the CC3 will perform select original compositions (including brand new material), and debut a new set of improvised music called MUSIC FOR SPACESHIPS.
Best part? Admission is free, but we kindly suggest a $10 donation to support our amazing artists. All ages are welcome, so bring the whole crew! We can’t wait to see you there!
