Andrew Erdos Artist Lecture

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Ascendance consists of laser-cut mirror glass and a panoramic video loop that can be seen in cloud ‘windows’ cut into mirrors. Monitors embedded behind the mirrors show images of a vast skyscape in the Western United States. This saturated spectrum of cloud-filled color was photographed by artist Andrew Erdos on the Navajo Indian Nation bordering Arizona, Utah, and New Mexico. Erdos’s installation transports this expansive outdoor world into the building, within a space whose material reflects visitors in the lobby as well as in the dramatic, shifting environment seen moving across the clouds. Visitors ascend physically on the elevator or the stairwell, and continue on a metaphoric, visual journey as they prepare to enter a reception lobby that serves as exhibition space for 21st-century art.

“The perception of time by humans and the experience of light in space have a predominant importance in my sculptures and installations, which investigate the complex relationship between humankind and its environment. I seek to explore the inherent conflict of an expanding industrialization and to open a space in which there is no boundary between nature, art and magic.” – Andrew Erdos, Artist
