Andrew Erdos (American), Ascendance. Laser cut mirrors and video projections.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

Ascendance consists of waterjet cut mirror glass and a panoramic video loop that can be seen in cloud ‘windows’ cut into mirrors. Monitors embedded behind the mirrors show images of a vast skyscape in the Western United States. This saturated spectrum of cloud-filled color was photographed by artist Andrew Erdos on the Navajo Nation, Arizona, Utah, and New Mexico. Erdos’s installation transports this expansive outdoor world into the building, within a space whose material reflects visitors in the lobby as well as in the dramatic, shifting environment seen moving across the clouds. Visitors ascend physically on the elevator or the stairwell, and continue on a metaphoric, visual journey as they prepare to enter a reception lobby that serves as exhibition space for 21st-century art.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Andrew Erdos is an internationally exhibiting new media artist and sculptor based in Brooklyn NY.  His work can be found in the permanent collections of the New Britain Museum of American Art; Toledo Museum of Art; Knoxville Museum of Art; Corning Museum of Glass; 21c Museum Durham, Chazen Museum of Art, and the Reviving Humanity Memorial in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
