PRESS RELEASE - 21c Museum Hotels, the award-winning boutique hotel, contemporary art museum and restaurant group, is proud to announce the appointment of executive chef Matthew McClure to The Hive, the debut restaurant for the Bentonville property, scheduled to open in 2013.

Under McClure’s direction, The Hive will emphasize the unique culinary identity of Arkansas, while articulating McClure’s approach to refined country cuisine. Showcasing the region’s farmers and culinary landscape, McClure will develop a program that is true to the High South, highlighting ingredients such as black walnuts, freshly milled corn meal, hickory smoked hams, peaches, melons and sweet onions.

Matthew McClure was born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas, where he realized his passion for food. After studying at the New England Culinary Institute, McClure settled in Boston and worked at a number of restaurants including No. 9 Park under the direction of Barbara Lynch, Troquet and Harvest. After years in Boston, the lure of his home was strong and McClure returned to Little Rock with his new wife, Jenny, where he worked under chef Lee Richardson at Ashley’s at the Capital Hotel. During his tenure, McClure’s appreciation for local ingredients was fortified and reinforced his mission to bring a touch of Arkansas to every plate.

“I am immensely proud of my home state of Arkansas and thrilled to be part of the 21c team,” says McClure. “My time with Lee Richardson was invaluable, and I look forward to creating a unique culinary destination within Bentonville and presenting to the locals and visitors why my passion for Arkansas’ role in food is so strong,” says McClure.

21c Museum Hotel Bentonville (200 NE “A” Street), scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2013, will create a new space for visitors and residents of Bentonville to experience hospitality, view cutting-edge contemporary art and enjoy McClure’s menu, which will celebrate the region’s sustainable producers and rich culinary traditions. Building on its mission of engaging the public with contemporary art and supporting the revitalization of American downtowns, the property will feature 12,000 square feet of museum, meeting and event space. The museum exhibits the work of living artists and admission is free of charge to the public. An outdoor sculpture garden will complement the interior museum galleries. These spaces serve as a key link in the emerging arts promenade that connects downtown Bentonville to the new Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.

Architect Deborah Berke’s design integrates extensive natural lighting throughout the 100,000 square foot property, which will also feature The Hive, spacious ballroom and state-of-the-art meeting and board rooms as well as outdoor spaces for private functions

About 21c Museum Hotels
21c Museum Hotel was founded in Louisville, Kentucky in 2006 by preservationists and contemporary art collectors Laura Lee Brown and Steve Wilson. The project supports both their desire to preserve beautiful Kentucky farmland through revitalization efforts in downtown Louisville and their vision for making contemporary art a part of more people’s daily lives. The couple tapped architect Deborah Berke to convert a series of 19th century tobacco and Bourbon warehouses into a contemporary art museum with 9,000 square feet of exhibition space, a 90 room boutique hotel, and a restaurant and bar, Proof on Main. As North America’s first museum devoted solely to the art of living artists, 21c Museum Hotel features a rotating program of curated exhibitions as well as site-specific, commissioned installations. 21c has garnered praise from many notable publications including Travel + Leisure, The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, W, and Condé Nast Traveler, whose readers voted 21c among the top 10 hotels in the world in the annual Readers’ Choice Survey in 2009, 2010 and 2011. With the critical and financial success of the Louisville property and after having been approached by local partners interested in having a 21c Museum Hotel in their community, 21c Museum Hotels was formed in 2007 to oversee the development and management of 21c Museum Hotel properties in new markets. Hotels are under construction in Cincinnati, OH (opening the fourth quarter of 2012) and Bentonville, AR (opening the first quarter of 2013) and under development in Lexington, KY. The company plans to develop 15 properties over the next five to ten years.

About Social Madness
Designed to boost participants’ knowledge and know-how in the social media realm, Social Madness is a competition with scores based on a proprietary scoring algorithm developed by American City Business Journals, Business First’s parent company. The algorithm measures companies’ social media influence, including factors such as votes on Business First’s Social Madness page, growth in companies’ “likes” on their Facebook pages, growth in Twitter followers and growth in connections on companies’ LinkedIn corporate pages.

On June 19, the top eight local vote-getters will be placed in a bracket competition. Then, on July 17, local winners will be announced, and they will move on to a national competition. On July 24, the national Social Madness program begins with 64 companies in each of the three size divisions participating. Three national winners will be announced on Sept. 11. Those champions each will get to direct a $7,500 donation to the charity they choose.

The Social Madness competition is presented by Capital One Spark Business nationally and sponsored locally by The Eye Care Institute.

PRESS RELEASE - 21c Museum Hotels, the award-winning boutique hotel, contemporary art museum and restaurant group, is proud to announce the appointment of Michael Paley and Levon Wallace as executive chefs of its restaurants in Cincinnati and Louisville, respectively.

Michael Paley, the executive chef at Proof on Main since the property opened in 2006, will remain the chef/partner of Garage Bar, a Neapolitan-style pizzeria, country ham and oyster bar in Louisville’s NuLu neighborhood. Paley will relocate this fall to lead the kitchen at Metropole, the new restaurant in the 21c Museum Hotel in Cincinnati, which is scheduled to open in fourth quarter 2012. Under Paley’s direction, Metropole will emphasize the city’s old world roots and focus on dishes cooked in a custom-built hearth. Showcasing the region’s sustainable farmers and producers, Paley will develop a menu of string-roasted meats, ash-cooked vegetables, house-made charcuterie and more, with a beverage menu that favors craft beers and bourbon.

“After opening Garage Bar, our wood-fired pizzeria in Louisville last year, I was inspired to create a menu that is cooked almost entirely by wood-fired heat,” Paley says. “Our menu at Metropole will reflect Cincinnati’s rich, European-based culinary heritage, and I am thrilled to introduce our custom-built hearth as the focal point of the restaurant and the menu.”

21c Museum Hotel Cincinnati will renovate the former Metropole Hotel—a historic landmark in downtown Cincinnati—restoring this nearly 100-year-old architectural gem into a beautiful public space. 21c is embracing the architecture of the Metropole building to create a new space for visitors and residents of Cincinnati to view cutting-edge contemporary art, and enjoy Paley’s menu that celebrates the region’s sustainable producers and culinary traditions. A rooftop bar will offer stunning views of downtown Cincinnati and the surrounding area.

Levon Wallace, an alumnus of luxury resort properties Ojai Valley Inn, Harbor View Hotel & Resort and The Kelley House in Nantucket, has been appointed as executive chef of Proof on Main, the acclaimed restaurant located at 21c Museum Hotel in Louisville. Over the course of the summer, Wallace and Paley will work in tandem on transitioning the kitchen.

“Over the next few months, Michael and I will work side-by-side to ensure a smooth and seamless experience for our guests and staff,” says Wallace. “I am excited to become part of the vibrant dining community in Louisville, and look forward to introducing my new menu at Proof on Main this fall.”

Signature Proof on Main dishes, including Bison Burger, Warm Ricotta, Charred Octopus, and House-Cured Meats, for example, will remain on the menu. Wallace will gradually introduce new menu items, showcasing responsibly sourced and locally raised ingredients from the restaurant’s Woodland Farm and other regional purveyors, with his approach of soulful, honest cooking to reflect Proof on Main’s style.

About 21c Museum Hotels
Founded in 2007, 21c Museum Hotels is a growing company that oversees the expansion and management of 21c properties nationally. The flagship hotel was founded in Louisville, Kentucky in 2006 by Laura Lee Brown and Steve Wilson, contemporary art collectors, who had a vision for bringing art into people’s daily lives and supporting the revitalization of their hometown. The property combines a 90-room boutique hotel, contemporary art museum, award-winning restaurant, and cultural civic center in the heart of downtown Louisville. With 9,000 square feet of art-filled meeting and event space, 21c guests enjoy authentic Southern hospitality while exploring the work of contemporary artists in North America’s first museum dedicated solely to art of the 21st Century. 21c has garnered praise from notable publications including Travel + Leisure, The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, National Geographic Traveler, and W. Voted among the top 10 hotels in the world in 2009, 2010 and 2011 in the Condé Nast Traveler annual Readers’ Choice Awards, 21c Museum Hotel is redefining the art of hospitality. Due to the success of the Louisville property and with strong local partners who share the belief that art can be an economic driver for a community, 21c is expanding outside of Louisville. Hotels are under construction in Bentonville, AR and Cincinnati, OH and a project has been announced in Lexington, KY. The company plans to develop 15 properties over the next five to ten years.

About Proof on Main
Located in downtown Louisville, Kentucky’s 21c Museum Hotel, Proof on Main’s menu is inspired by the culinary traditions of the American South. Through partnerships with Woodland Farm and other regional farmers and producers, the menu has become a showcase for the bounty of the Ohio River Valley. Woodland Farm, located 24 miles east of the restaurant, is owned by 21c founders Laura Lee Brown and Steve Wilson. Preserving the farmland of Kentucky and bringing heritage foods back to the table are among the couple’s greatest passions. Brown and Wilson collaborate to provide Proof with sustainably grown produce and heirloom fruits. In 2010, they began raising heritage breed chickens to supply the restaurant with eggs as well as Hereford and Mulefoot hogs. The farm is also home to the couple’s sustainable bison operation, Kentucky Bison Company, which supplies Proof and numerous other restaurants around Louisville with hormone-free, grass-fed bison. As an official part of Louisville’s Urban Bourbon Trail, the restaurant and bar stocks over 50 of Kentucky’s finest bourbons.

PRESS RELEASE - 21c Museum Hotels is pleased to announce the appointment of Emmanuel Gardinier to the position of General Manager of 21c Museum Hotel Bentonville, opening the first quarter of 2013. Gardinier brings over 25 years of experience, with a strong background in managing award-winning luxury and branded properties. In this role he will be responsible for overseeing all hotel operations, sales, and community and guest relations.

Gardinier’s experience spans all areas of the hospitality business including sales, food and beverage, IT management, and marketing. Prior to joining 21c, Gardinier was Managing Director for the Planters Inn in Charleston, SC. During his time there the Relais and Chateaux property was named to Travel + Leisure magazine’s prestigious World’s Best list. Before that he was the General Manager of Little Palm Island Resort and Spa, an exclusive private island resort in the Florida Keys, where he boosted overall property revenue and overhauled sales and marketing strategies. Gardinier, originally from Paris, has managed hotels around the world from Lausanne, Switzerland to Reims, France and the French West Indies.

“There is a true sense of community in Bentonville that is quite remarkable, and very inviting. It is exciting to see all of the fantastic things going on there, and Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art is an incredible attraction for the region. Bentonville is home to people from all over the world and has cultural attractions that compete with big cities. I’m thrilled to be part of 21c and look forward to its exhibitions that will highlight artists from around the world alongside regional artists,” says Gardinier.

21c Museum Hotels President Craig Greenberg says, “Emmanuel’s accessible management style and philosophy that luxury is about comfort and creating a warm, personable environment fits perfectly with 21c’s approach. His wide-ranging experience and proven track record of results will be critical for the successful launch of 21c Bentonville and beyond.”

Gardinier will be based out of the 21c Museum Hotel pre-opening office at 207 NE 2nd St while the property is under construction. The office will also include a gallery space and will provide a preview of contemporary art from the 21c collection. Gardinier will be spending time both at the corporate headquarters in Louisville and in Bentonville until early July. The pre-opening gallery will be open for a sneak peak the weekend of June 1–3, 2012.

About 21c Museum Hotel
21c Museum Hotel Bentonville, opening in 2013, is a combination boutique hotel, contemporary art museum and restaurant modeled after the award-winning 21c Museum Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky. Building on its mission of engaging the public with contemporary art and supporting the revitalization of American downtowns, the heart of 21c Bentonville will be 12,000 square feet of museum, meeting and event space. The museum exhibits the work of living artists and is open free of charge to the public. An outdoor sculpture garden will complement the interior museum galleries. These spaces serve as a key link in the emerging arts promenade that connects downtown Bentonville to the brand new Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. Architect Deborah Berke’s design integrates extensive natural lighting throughout the 100,000 square foot property, which will also feature a 125-seat restaurant, spacious ballroom and state-of-the-art meeting and conference rooms as well as outdoor spaces for private functions. The hotel will incorporate 104 guest rooms—including a one-bedroom 21c Suite with a terrace—that embrace the founders’ ethos of “living with art.”
